A quick guide for LMS Instructor

Welcome instructors to Aamusted LMS, your all-in-one platform for managing and delivering engaging online courses! This guide provides a comprehensive overview of the LMS’s functionalities, empowering you to create a seamless learning experience for your students.

Navigating Your Course:

  • Navigation Tray: This collapsible menu allows you to access your course, dashboard, gradebook, and other available courses (click the hamburger menu icon in the top left corner).
  • Course Management Panel: Quickly access essential settings like activities, quizzes, reports, grading, user links, and course settings (click the gear icon in the top right corner).
  • Breadcrumb Navigation Bar: Track your location within the course structure. Click the course name to return to the main course page.

Understanding Course Structure:

  • Blocks & Sections: By default, your course page is divided into two columns. The right side displays customizable blocks (e.g., Calendar, Upcoming Events), while the center contains sections for organizing your course content and activities (e.g., topics, weeks).

Adding Content and Activities:

  • Turn Editing On: Click the green pencil icon (top right) to enable adding, editing, and rearranging course elements.
  • Adding Resources: Enhance your course with static content like files, web links, folders, and labels. Drag files from your desktop directly into the desired section.
  • Adding Activities: Engage students with interactive activities like discussion forums, assignments, quizzes, and wikis.

The Activities Block:

  • This block provides a central location for students to access all activities within the course, categorized by type.

Understanding User Roles:

  • Teacher (Default for Instructors): Manage content, activities, settings, and student grades.
  • Non-Editing Teacher (Default for TAs): View course content and grade student submissions.
  • Student: View resources, participate in activities, and access the gradebook.
  • Guest (Optional): View course materials but cannot participate in activities or view student work.

Getting Help:

  • Get Help Link: Access context-sensitive help documentation from the top right corner.
  • Help Icons (Circles with Question Marks): Click these icons throughout the LMS for quick explanations of various elements.
  • IT Support Center: Search or browse the IT Support Center’s Moodle articles for detailed step-by-step guides on specific functionalities.
  • Instructional Media Lab: Instructors, TAs, and departmental staff can contact the Instructional Media Lab for personalized assistance.

Additional Notes:

  • Hide/Show sections or activities to manage student visibility.
  • Share the URL displayed in your browser’s address bar to link directly to your course.
  • Access a recycle bin for restoring recently deleted files from your course pages (within seven days).
  • Utilize the powerful Gradebook for complex calculations and organizing student grades.
  • Post announcements to keep students informed through automated email notifications.
  • Leverage optional forum email subscriptions for instructors and students.
